"It's like riding a bike!"
This is such a loosely used phrase. Are things really just like riding a bike, where you never forget how to do them? I used to be a dancer and could bust out three or four pirouettes on command and, when I was playing around the other day on tile...in socks and had to catch my balance after one. I suppose the phrase really depends on the act, but that could surely cause some problems. Suppose you were bungee jumping for the first time after 20 years and forgot to connect one hook. That would be a hell of a bike to remember how to ride. People are so brave sometimes and take little phrases like this to heart when, in reality, practice runs are key. To use the cliche, even if I hadn't ridden a bike in 20 years, I would still probably throw on a helmet or have a better rider accompany me. That brings much more joy and fulfillment when you do get the hang of it again and you are still all in one piece!
